NORTHERN RIVERS SHEEP BREEDERS GROUP

The Northern Rivers Sheep Breeders Group formed in August 2007.

The aims of the group:

  • To provide a network for sheep breeders that will benefit members.
  • To offer information to members on topics of interest.
  • To promote sheep on the North Coast of NSW.

Meetings:

The group meets 4 times a year at the properties of different members. Each meeting deals with different topics of interest relating to sheep. Previous guest speakers include a vet, a specialist in lamb production, an organic grower and an agronomist.

The February meeting was considered a very successful and informative day by those who attended. The program included:

  • Demonstration of the basics of butchering a sheep.
  • How to use the newly released Haemonchus Dipstick test (for testing Barbers Pole worm burden).
  • Hands on exercise in sheep aging and classing.

The next meeting will be held on 3 May 2010 near Lismore.

We are also seeking suggestions for speakers and topics for future meetings.

Newsletters:

Members receive 4 newsletters per year. The newsletters contain detailed information from the meetings, other items of interest and free advertising for members.

Annual Membership:  For Newsletters via email -     Family: $20.00      Single: $15.00

For Newsletters via mail -      Family: $25.00      Single: $20.00

Members can have their contact details added to the Membership List which is circulated to all members.

Although called the Northern Rivers Sheep Breeders Group, the group is not restricted to those living on the north coast of NSW. Membership is available to anyone with an interest in sheep who would like to join to share information with other members.

The Northern Rivers Sheep Breeders Group welcomes new members.
